Day 01 Negombo
On arrival at Colombo International Airport, you will be greeted by your chauffeur who will drive you to your hotel. Explore the city on foot where you can experience first-hand the borrowed times from the Portuguese -the amazing architecture the Dutch/English left behind, their food and habits, all with a local flavour. Tours lasting 3 - 4 hours are conducted in the evening, allowing the body to battle the humidity levels and experience the down time of island culture.
Overnight Stay at Negombo.
Day 02 Colombo
This would be your day to explore Colombo. Visit the Gangaramaya temple. The Gangarama Vihara is one of the most visited venerable temples in the country, decorated with wonderful brass work, stone carvings and other Buddhist art. Also a place of learning, it houses a museum, complete with a residential hall. For the uninitiated, this could be an introduction to Buddhism
Visit the Beira lake. You can rent duck paddle boats to go around the lake.
After that, head to the Old Dutch Hospital for lunch. This is one of the oldest buildings in the
Colombo Fort area, dating back to the Dutch colonial era (ca. 1681). Today it houses nice restaurants and cafes, and cool shops you must check out.
Post lunch, visit one of the houses of a world renowned architect. The Geoffrey Bawa residence is considered a special architectural marvel which also houses art from the late architect’s collection. Head back to your hotel and retire for the night.
Day 03 Nuware Eliya
Check out of your hotel early and head to Nuwara Eliya, a place often referred to by the Sri Lankan Tourism Industry as ‘Little England’ and located at the heart of Sri Lanka. Thanks to its cooler climate, the city has a different feel from other parts of the country. The town centre is small enough to walk around with many key places to visit such as Single Tree Mountain, Victoria Park, Hakgala Gardens, Lake Gregory and numerous tea plantations. Take your pick!
Pay a visit to a strawberry farm and eat strawberries fresh off the runners. Spend some time at the café where you can buy fresh-from-the-farm strawberries, as well as jam and tea. Sit and enjoy the view and do not miss the strawberry cream, crush and shakes!
If you want some relaxed time, go boating at Gregory lake. For a taste of the past, have a drink at the old colonial Hill Club or Grand Hotel - there is so much to do out here!
Day 04 Airport
This is the last day of your trip. Wake up at leisure, check out of your hotel and head to the airport. If you have time, you can shop in Colombo before you catch your flight.
