Day 01 Negombo

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met with, and transferred to your hotel in Negombo. Your travel assistant will be with you from the time you enter Sri Lanka to the time you leave. Negombo was once heralded as the island's premier spice town. It then progressively evolved into the biggest fishing port, a centre of Roman Catholicism, and one of the original tourist resorts, thus crowning it the Little Rome of Sri Lanka. This town has a quaint atmosphere, with bustling little streets, delightful canals, interesting creeks, an extensive lagoon and interesting architecture all over the place. Enjoy watching the old world fishing crafts like the outrigger canoes and the catamarans that bring a variety of marine fishes such as seer, skipjack, pomfret and amber-jack. In the lagoon, lobsters and prawns are caught and served as delicacies in the restaurants. In addition, the Negombo Fish Market is a must-visit, apart from the beach of course.

Day 02 Colombo - Pinnawala - Dambulla - Sigiriya

We drive north to see the fish market on Negombo on the second morning. After that we visit the Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage that has the largest herd of captive elephants in the world. From there we move to the Dambulla Caves to check out the five important caves that contain paintings and statues of Lord Buddha and other deities. We then move to Sigiriya for the night.

Hotel Saunter Paradise or similar (3 Star)

Day 03 Sigiriya - Anuradhapura

On the third day we make a trip to the ancient city of Anuradhapura, and Mihintale.

This sacred city was established around a cutting from the 'tree of enlightenment', the Buddha's fig tree, brought there in the 3rd century B.C. by Sanghamitta, the founder of an order of Buddhist nuns. Anuradhapura, a Ceylonese political and religious capital that flourished for 1,300 years, was abandoned after an invasion in 993. Hidden away in dense jungle for many years, the splendid site, with its palaces, monasteries and monuments, is now accessible once again. We then return to Sirigiya for the night.

Hotel Saunter Paradise or similar (3 Star)

Day 04 Polonnaruwa - Sigiriya

Today, we proceed to Polonnaruwa, the second most ancient kingdom of Sri Lanka as declared by King Vijayabahu. Today the ancient city remains one of the best planned archaeological sites in the country, and it is been declared a World Heritage site by UNESCO. We chase the sunset at Minneriya and return to the hotel for the night.

We'll also take you on a city tour of Kandy where you can visit the Gem Museum, the Temple of Tooth Relic, among others.

Day 06 Peradeniya - Nuwara Eliya - Bandarawella

After breakfast, we will take you to the Peradaniya Royal Botanical Gardens that attracts more than 2 million visitors every year. It's known for its massive collection of orchids and is a must-see. We then drive to Nuwara Eliya, stopping by two waterfalls, and a visit to the tea factory and plantation. Then we drive up to Bandarawella for the night.

Day 07 Bandarawella - Ella - Yala

With trumpeting elephants, monkeys crashing through the trees, peacocks in their finest frocks and cunning leopards sliding like shadows through the undergrowth, Yala National Park (also known as Ruhunu) is The Jungle Book brought to life. This vast region of dry woodland and open patches of grasslands is the big draw of this corner of Sri Lanka. We then stop at Thissamaharamaya for the night.

We leave Yala, drive to the coast and stop in Hambatota, visit the snake and turtle farm on the way, stop at Welligama, and then Galle to check out the Dutch Fort before driving to Bentota.
