Day 01 Negombo

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met with, and transferred to your hotel in Negombo. Your travel assistant will be with you from the time you enter Sri Lanka to the time you leave. Negombo was once heralded as the island's premier spice town. It then progressively evolved into the biggest fishing port, a centre of Roman Catholicism, and one of the original tourist resorts, thus crowning it the Little Rome of Sri Lanka. This town has a quaint atmosphere, with bustling little streets, delightful canals, interesting creeks, an extensive lagoon and interesting architecture all over the place. Enjoy watching the old world fishing crafts like the outrigger canoes and the catamarans that bring a variety of marine fishes such as seer, skipjack, pomfret and amber-jack. In the lagoon, lobsters and prawns are caught and served as delicacies in the restaurants.

In addition, the Negombo Fish Market is a must-visit, apart from the beach of course.

Enjoy your breakfast, as you are taken on an approximately 5-hour drive to Habarana, a major place of interest in Sri Lanka. On your way to Habarana you will make a stop at Sigiriya, which is one of Sri Lanka's heritages cities. Sigiriya's history is as enchanting as a fairy tale, if not more. Visit the Sigiriya Rock Fortress built by King Kasapa who fled to the wilderness of Sigiriya after executing his own father. The guilt and pride kept him hidden in Sigiriya where he built a city of unbelievable grandeur. Take a tour of the frescos and the amazing palace and learn a thing or two about Sri Lanka's colourful history.

You will also get the opportunity to enjoy a safari on elephant back at Habarana. The Minneriya National Park is located between Habarana and Polonnaruwa and covers an area of 8890 hectares, and is an ideal place for elephant and leopard watching. The vegetation of this park is mix of evergreen trees and shrubs. An important feature of this park is the 3rd century Minneriya Tank located within the park, which during the dry season becomes the ideal place to spot wildlife.

The city, which was established in the 15th century, was the last royal capital ending the 2500 years of royal rule of Sri Lanka. Some of the most interesting places to visit in Kandy are: The Temple of Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa); The old royal palace compound; Lankatilake and Gadaladeniya temples; Embekke Temple; The Royal Botanical gardens.
